Tips and Tricks

May 26, 2008

We’d like to share some reminders/tips/tricks with you. These are the little things that help make your RedDot pages successful. If any of these seem mysterious to you, please let us know. We’re happy to elaborate!

When linking to another page within RedDot, please use the search function to create a link. Do not use a url like

When linking to a document, please add a qualifier after the name of the file, to let people know what they are opening. Example: Graduate School Application (PDF) Please enter _blank in the target field for PDFs.

All images need to have an alt tag. After you have inserted the image, click it, click the insert/edit image button, and add a caption in the alt box.

For best results with images, try the align dropdown (left and right are your best bets), and put the number 5 in the hspace and vspace boxes to give some room between the image and the text.

Please unformat your text. Pre-formatted text, such as that copied from the web or a Word document, will have formatting that will cause display problems in RedDot. Either use the paste unformatted button, or highlight the text and use the unformat button.

Pretend that the drop down boxes of size and font don’t exist. Use only the H1, H2, H3, H4, H5 buttons to change the size of your text.
