A RedDot reminder – if you want to add photos to your body copy or callout, please do!  They jazz up the pages, help people connect with you, and show all the great things going on at WCU. If you want to add photos to the top of your pages, talk to us – we’ll help you.

A few details –

SIZE

Please size your images BEFORE you add them to your page in RedDot.

Sizes:

Callout – no wider than 140 pixels

Body Copy – Standard 3 Column Layout – no wider than 355 pixels

Body Copy – Wide no Right Column Layout – no wider than 550 pixels

Body Copy – Wide no Side Columns Layout – No wider than 740 pixels

72 dpi

NAMING IMAGES

Name your files following 2 concepts:

  • Use your college/dept/program name or acronym first.
  • Use explanatory words for the rest.
  • Example: library_building_outside.jpg
  • Example: CEAP_students_classroom.gif

File names must contain only number, letter, or underscore characters.

Headshots: Use the lastname_firstname.jpeg naming convention. If these are of faculty or staff, store them in the Images/Faculty folder. Example: Smith_John.jpg

ALT TAGS

All images must have alt text accompanying them. After the image is inserted in the page, select the image, click the Insert Image button and a box will open. Type the alt text in the Alt field. If your picture has a caption, use the caption.

ALIGNMENT

Once the image is inserted, you can adjust the alignment if necessary.  Select the image, click the Insert Image button and a box will open. Use the alignment field. We use left and right to wrap the text around the image.

SPACING

To add spacing around your image, enter a number into the Vspace and Hspace boxes. This is a border of space between your image and the text. 5 is a good amount of space to enter in the Vspace and Hspace boxes. Just enter the number 5.

Please ask if you have any questions. Happy photo editing!
